Sugar Land videography team wins eight state awards – Houston Chronicle

The team consists of digital communications manager Jake Schnitzer and media producers Roman Perez and Habib Dacak. 

The TATOA awards recognize excellence in video programming in Texas.TATOA is a professional nonprofit association. 

Sugar Land won first place in three categories.

It scored first- and third-place awards in the Public Education category. The city won first place for “Back To The My Neighborhood app,” and third place for “Frank The City Psychic,” both encouraging residents to stay connected with the city. 

First-place awards also went to “New Employee Orientation”  in the Instruction/Training category and to “Unexpected Weather” in the Use of Humor category.

 The team earned a second-place finish  for a “Hands On- Management Assistant Recruitment” video in the Profile of an Organization category.

“Don’t Be A Zombie” bagged third-place awards in the Magazine Format Series and Public Health and Safety categories. The humorous video reminds young women to stay alert and pay attention to their surroundings, especially at night. 

The video “ISWMM” won third place in the Weather category. Sugar Land’s “Integrated Stormwater Management Model” is a database of the city’s drainage infrastructure that provides real-time information on ponding and flooding during rain events.

Sugar Land also received an honorable mention for an animated promotional video on the city’s annual employee Ping Pong tournament.

“Jake, Roman and Habib are professional storytellers whose creative contributions to our city are indispensable,” sid Doug Adolph, the city’s communications director. “They work collaboratively with employees throughout the city to produce creative, professional content that makes governance more accessible and transparent, provides awareness of important services and programs, contributes to around-the-clock updates during emergencies and highlights the efforts of our champion employees who deliver the quality services our citizens expect. They are the best in the business and make a difference every day!”

In 2022, TATOA received a record number of submissions with 314 entries from 31 cities across Texas.
