How to Build a Charging Station for Photographers and Videographers – Fstoppers

December 17, 2021 by No Comments

The arsenal of equipment modern-day photographers and videographers have is large, with gadgets left and right. This does create some difficulties, however, and one irritant is the need to charge everything pre-shoot. Here is how to build a DIY charging station.

The charging of my equipment has always been a bit messy, but it wasn’t until a trip earlier this year that I was stunned at just how chaotic it had become. I needed to take a lot of equipment and I needed it to all be charged. So, at one time (and this is off the top of my head so I might miss something), I was charging two camera batteries, four drone batteries, my powerbank, two separate lights, a handheld LED, and my laptop. The area around my sockets looked like a Medusa-inspired art installation, punctuated with little flashing lights.

Finally, I am building myself an office space and I am beginning to think about all of the utility I want to embed. That is, where I want my charging to be done and how I can cable manage everything I need. For that reason, this video by Parker Walbeck is very well timed and shows what you can do with a relatively low investment of money and time.

How do you manage charging all of your batteries and devices preshoot?
